    a chapel called zardis.-

    she was born alice louisa wilmot and married a norman charles pardella, in queensland australia.....

  5. Hello the Ranks was situated between the black prince and the police station on the main road where now stands the old age bunglows.They were ruins before 1948 the bunglows being built in late 50 s early 60 s

  6. The only "Ranks" I know of, is "The Ranks" at Abercarn. The rows of houses were built to house workers familys and had the luxury of attached outside loos, flag stone floors and a flued fire-place!

  2. The shop on the right,where the girl with the bag is,was a sub-branch of Barclays Bank,and I worked there for a while in 1969.

  1. hello i lived in 89 alexandra rd until i was 15yrs old. i went to pontllanfraith comp school. my aunties and uncles and cousins still live there. would like to here from anyone that rememebers me.

  2. my husband brin bush live at 23 until we got married in 1964 then we live at 89 until we move to poole dorset in 1979

  3. i think the women standing near the kerb could be my mother -in-law i remeber mrs davis in the cornner shop and her daugther sandra was my friend also remeber tom and doreen freeman with the shop next door to mrs davis as my in-laws live in 23 next door to the shop

  4. Maiden name Gibbs - lived up Mynyddislwyn and I remember Mrs Davies at the corner shop. Brought back loads of memories opening this website.

  5. My name was Dorothy Jones and I lived at No 65 Alexandra Rd. My grandmother Grace Jones lived next door. I started school at the infant school at the bottom of the road. Junior school was in Cwmfelinfach and then I went to the grammar school at Pontllanfraith.I left Ynysddu in 1965.

    it was alexandra road, I remembered the shopkeepers name was a mrs davies.my my infant school was opposite I lived at no 89 opposite my

    grandparents I was born in 1952

  7. Just recieved my Great grandmother's death certificate. She died in 1915 whilst living at 9 Alexandra Street. Her husband John was working a Colliery Roadman (underground)

    my mother was born in Alexander Street in 1921. Her maiden name is Moreton, her name is Majorie, her mothers name was Gladys and her fathers Charlie, they moved to Syndicate Terrace in Cum, then to London and then Slough, she talks of her life in Ynysddu and I used take her back often. I wach the local team play rugby when i can

  10. Mrs Arther had the first shop then Mrs Davies later on Tizer (Mike), The second shop was owned by Mr & Mrs Freeman By the way its Road not Street

    Lived in Ynysddu all my life and so did my father and Grandfather in Graig View.

    greatgranfather was a fireman when the miners had a sit down strike. The strike is mentioned in a newspaper in a war museum in Jersey.

  1. There was a Lloyds Bank opposite the Pioneer on the Corner of High Street and Commercial Street, I wonder if it could have been the smallest branch in Wales???

  2. My grandma lived in Craig view(?Griag view) and my greatgrandfather built a chapel at Pontllanfraith. His name was J.D. Wilkins. Does anyone know if the chapel is still standing, or the name of it?
